Aviation Interview Tips

Interviews can feel intimidating, but they don’t have to be. At Aviation Recruitment Network, we believe interviews are a chance for you to showcase your personality, skills, and passion for aviation. No matter which job vacancy you are applying for in the aviation industry, we’re here to help you feel confident and prepared.

A potential employer may not expect you to have done the exact job before—but they will be looking for relevant experience, transferable skills, and strengths that show you’re capable of thriving in the role. Think about how your background aligns with the job description and be ready to highlight those connections.

Before the interview

Before your interview or assessment, double-check the format and logistics. Is it in person or online? Do you have the correct time, date, and location?

Making sure you're fully prepared helps you feel confident and avoids last-minute stress.

Top 5 interview tips

The aviation sector is unique, and so are its interviews. Here are some tailored interview tips aviation candidates should keep in mind:

  1. Research the company and its values. Be ready to explain why you want to work with us. Understanding our mission and how you align with it shows genuine interest and preparation.
  2. Highlight relevant experience. When asked “Why should we hire you?”, focus on your aviation-related skills, achievements, and how they match the role—especially if you're applying for a cabin crew position.
  3. Know your strengths and areas for growth. Be honest and self-aware. Talk about your strengths confidently, and mention any areas you’re working to improve, especially those relevant to teamwork, safety, or customer service.
  4. Show your teamwork skills. Aviation is all about collaboration. Share examples of how you've worked effectively in a team, particularly in high-pressure or customer-facing environments.
  5. Ask thoughtful questions. Use the opportunity to ask about training, progression, uniform policies, or anything else that helps you understand the role better. It shows you're engaged and serious about the opportunity.

Assessment Centres & Presentations

Depending on the role you are applying for, you may be invited to attend an assessment centre or deliver a presentation as part of the selection process. Assessment centres typically involve group tasks, problem-solving activities, and individual exercises designed to evaluate how you:

  • Work with others
  • Communicate and contribute
  • Handle challenges and think critically

If you're asked to present or participate in an assessment centre, read all instructions carefully and prepare thoroughly. Researching the employer’s website and understanding their values can give you insight into what they’re looking for and help you tailor your approach.
